Jump rings for jewellery can be purchased in many sizes, metals, colors, and forms, but you can you also create your own as seen in the video above.

Instructions for making a jump ring

Wrap the wire around a wooden dowel, tightly so that there are no spaces between the rings then cut each individual loop coil with wire cutters (flush-cut so you have a flat cut)

I have the opportunity to participate in a community yard sale. I want to sell my collection of beads?

How should I price them? They are stored in spice jars and pill bottles, and there are enough to fill two laundry baskets. They range from regular seed beads to larger glass beads; a small assortment of freshwater pearls; and a few Swarovski crystals.

Put the really rare ones in special containers and sell them separately for a lot more. Put all the rest in small dishes and sell them by the ounce. Have a little scale and let people buy to their heart's content.

Which is better, a Rock Tumbler or a vibratory polisher?

They are both good, but your choice must be based upon what you wish to accomplish. The rock tumbler is great for heavier debris removal and for cleaning. I have seen it used with a fine grit for polishing, but the vibrator may be the better choice for fine polishing as it does not cause the rocks to bash into each other.

special rocks for Rock Tumbler?

i am thinking of getting my daughter a rock tumbler for christmas. i know you can buy refill packs of Semi-Precious stones for the tumbler, but do you have to? she has a whole slew of rocks from our backyard. can they be tumbled? i know they won't turn out as pretty as the jade or turquoise, but they'll be shiny? right? she'd be happy w/shiny gray.

What do I need to get into lapidary?

I want to start carving soft stones like soapstone alabaster and onyx. Nothing big just things like small animals arrowheads and pendants. What tools do I need?

My husband joined a local gem/ lapidary chapter. It usually has a membership fee, but they have all the tools you will need and the other members are there to assist in the learning process. Good luck!
