Why does modern Rock sound more polished then older Rock?
Older Rock sounds more raw and modern just sounds so airbrushed and glamorized. For instance if you listen to "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin it sounds very raw. Listen to "Sound of Madness" by Shinedown. What do they do in the studio now that polishes the songs? How do they record differently nowadays?
Old rock used analog equipment that introduce slight distortions that are part of the sound and warmth.
New rock uses digital equipment which can sound too clean to my ears.
I have been around long enough to hear some of my bands switch to digital in the eighties or so and I can tell the difference. Now a days pop arrangements seem to sell also.
