Hello there,
A cab (as it is commonly called) is a stone that is cut and polished with a flat bottom. It may have squared or rounded corners. It may have a flat, rounded or event facet cuts on its top. Hematite and onyx cabs are sometimes cut with facet cuts on the top. Those are common in mens rings. The facet cuts are for appearance in this case, they do not reflect light.
A cab is generally set in a bezel setting, however, it can be set in a prong setting. This method of cutting and polishing stones is generally used on opaque stones, but semi-translucent stones may also be cabbed. Facet cut stones reflect the light due to the many cuts. Cabs do not reflect light well.
