Conserving dead insects...?
I have this giant wasp that's dead, no physical damage done to it, and I was wondering how could I be able to preserve it? (i.g. Amber, etc.)
Using household items please.
Insect skeletons are made of sclerotinized chitin, a carbohydrate that is extremely resistent to deterioration. All you need to do is to protect the wasp from museum pests such as carpet beetles and book lice. The best way to do that is to put the dry wasp into a bottle and seal the bottle. But the wasp must be dried out; if it's damp, the specimen will quickly be consumed by fungi. I'd suggest including the collection data--the collection site, the county and state, the date of collection, and the name of the collector.
